Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and IP Telephony represent truly unique opportunities for APC solutions. Simply put, VoIP telephony equipment may cause availability issues because its deployment can cause unexpected or unplanned power and cooling requirements in wiring closets and wiring rooms. To maintain high availability, this means more than just protecting the routers and the server room – it means protecting the telephone switches too.

APC’s solutions provide everything that is needed for end-to-end VoIP availability. They range from integrated network-critical-physical-infrastructure (NCPI) systems to NCPI components covering power, cooling, management, services and enclosures. They provide NCPI protection including “ride-through” power during brownouts, and extended back-up power in the event of a prolonged outage. In addition, with APC’s management solutions, customers have the ability to proactively manage and monitor availability levels for their entire VoIP network. In short, APC helps assure VoIP customers that telephone service will be available at all times, even when the power is out.

The partnership was initially formed to increase customer satisfaction amongst a mutual customer base by ensuring the implementation of best practices for network application availability. Today, it has evolved even further with APC joining the Cisco Technology Developer Program as an IP Communications participant.

But Cisco is not alone. As a Nortel Developer Partner, APC works to ensure proper monitoring, management and shutdown of Nortel’s Business Communication Manager (BCM). In addition, APC is also a member of Avaya’s global-reaching DeveloperConnection (DevConnect) Program.
